Welcome! We appreciate your interest in the Wellstar Cobb Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Training Program. Our program was established in 1953 and has since graduated more than 1,500 residents. Our fully accredited three-year program recruits a diverse group of residents each year. These residents train in a supportive and inclusive environment while learning from talented faculty who are outstanding clinicians.
Our trainees see a diverse patient population in both the ambulatory and inpatient settings. Here, you will gain experience in a wide range of pathology, which promotes the development of necessary clinical and diagnostic skills in internal medicine. The residency program also offers clinical research opportunities and encourages participation in scholarly activities.
We support and provide mentorship to residents so they can achieve both personal and professional goals. Residents receive education, resources and support for mental and physical well-being. The expectation for our residents is that they dedicate themselves to being leaders, educators and excellent clinicians. We encourage them to be lifelong learners.
Our program is committed to training the next generation of physicians. At the completion of their training, we are confident they are prepared to provide excellent patient care to our communities.
This historical program began in 1953 and currently resides at Wellstar Cobb Medical Center. Wellstar Cobb is a 387-bed facility with Level III Trauma Center and a Level II Emergency Cardiac Care Center. The hospital is also home to a burn unit and a 34-bed behavioral health inpatient unit. The hospital is designated a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and the Georgia Department of Public Health and houses spine surgery, as well as knee and hip replacement programs certified by The Joint Commission.
Our residents learn in an advanced environment with the latest technology, including a fully integrated electronic medical record with remote access capability and a new state-of-the-art simulation center equipped for training and education. The center focuses on enhancing residents skills, interdisciplinary collaborations, and patient safety. The program also provides clinical research opportunities with a designated statistician who provides education on statistical analysis.
Each program has their own research opportunities. This may include case reports, quality improvement, clinical research and patient safety projects. Most research collaborates with the Wellstar Research Institute and all follow IRB (Institutional Review Board) guidelines.
